Multiple people stabbed at Lone Star College’s Cy-Fair campus near Houston; suspect detained
As many as 14 people were injured Tuesday morning and most were taken to area hospitals, according to reports. A suspect was caught after the school was placed on lock down, officials said.

As many as 14 people were injured in a stabbing spree at Lone Star College near Houston on Tuesday, with at least one suspect caught and the school placed on temporary lockdown, local law enforcement officials said.
The violence was reported around 11:30 a.m. local time at the school’s Cy-Fair campus in north Harris County. A suspect has been detained, the Harris County Sheriff’s Department told the Daily News.
At least 14 people were injured during a mass stabbing at a local community college in the northwest Houston area Tuesday morning, according to the local rescue officials.
Alan Bernstein, public affairs director at the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, told the Daily News 14 people were hurt, including four who were flown to the hospital by helicopter. Others were taken by ambulance or treated at the scene.
Witnesses told CBS affiliate KHOU 11 that the incident erupted in a lab at the campus’ Health Sciences building.

Student Margo Shimfarr-Evans said she had just left the building when she learned a classmate had been stabbed.
“It happened in the hallway, we have a lab and lecture, and down the hallway it’s all lab classes and a classmate in the lab class got stabbed,” she said.

Police said at a press conference it was a random “building-to-building attack.” How many buildings or classrooms involved in unclear. An officer said a student tackled the suspect, who was then detained by police.
An earlier alert put out by the school on Facebook said there were possibly two armed suspects, with one still at large. Bernstein said the sprawling community college campus remains on modified lock down.

“The first job is to make sure all possible suspects and all possible victims are found and dealt with,” he told the Daily News. “Even though it’s not a run and hide situation and people are moving about campus, the second job is to declare the campus is reopened, and that hasn’t happened. The other details are the third thing.”
Bernstein couldn’t confirm the suspect’s gender, age, the weapon used or if the suspect was a student at the college.

Officials said Tuesday afternoon that they believe the attacks are over.
“It appears the campus is now safe, but we have people triple checking the sprawling campus for other suspects and victims,” Bernstein said. “The campus is on lockdown so we can conduct a full investigation to make sure there’s only one suspect.”
A Lone Star College campus in North Harris was the scene of violence in January, when gunfire wounded three people.
