Before beginning this article, I’d like to go over a psychological phenomena called cognitive dissonance:
Cognitive dissonance refers to a situation involving conflicting attitudes, beliefs or behaviors. This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance.
Now that, that is out of the way, I can begin the article. I’m sure you all may have heard a snippet of this news, but let me run over it quickly: mentally ill woman crashes her car into some barriers by the white house, which then led to a police chase. The police shot and killed her. The woman was unarmed, and she had her 1-year-old daughter with her.

Now, my question is, why? Yes, she posed an obvious danger to everyone, but there were so many other ways of ending the incident without death. But, here’s what sickens me about this whole situation:

“I Want To Reiterate The Heroic Work Of U.S. Capitol Police Officers”
There are very few monsters on this earth who can call what they did to be heroic. What we all saw on that day was an execution. We saw a fellow U.S. citizen get murdered by police officers. However, because it was done by the police, and we all know that police are never at fault, this is a nonevent. Now I ask you, you the reader, did you play cognitive dissonance in your mind as you read? Did you try and side with the officers because you don’t want to think of them as the bad guys? I hope that you’ve come to recognize this psychological phenomena, because the American people are subject to it at all times.
