Crazed Woman Attacks White House

Before beginning this article, I’d like to go over a psychological phenomena called cognitive dissonance:
Cognitive dissonance refers to a situation involving conflicting attitudes, beliefs or behaviors. This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an alteration  in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance.

Now that, that is out of the way, I can begin the article. I’m sure you all may have heard a snippet of this news, but let me run over it quickly: mentally ill woman crashes her car into some barriers by the white house, which then led to a police chase. The police shot and killed her. The woman was unarmed, and she had her 1-year-old daughter with her.

Article about the incident:

Now, my question is, why? Yes, she posed an obvious danger to everyone, but there were so many other ways of ending the incident without death. But, here’s what sickens me about this whole situation:

Fast forward to 11:55 into the video:

“I Want To Reiterate The Heroic Work Of U.S. Capitol Police Officers”

There are very few monsters on this earth who can call what they did to be heroic. What we all saw on that day was an execution. We saw a fellow U.S. citizen get murdered by police officers. However, because it was done by the police, and we all know that police are never at fault, this is a nonevent. Now I ask you, you the reader, did you play cognitive dissonance in your mind as you read? Did you try and side with the officers because you don’t want to think of them as the bad guys? I hope that you’ve come to recognize this psychological phenomena, because the American people are subject to it at all times.

  1. I agree, police need to be trained with more awareness of common and moral justice. It seems like we see incidents like these any time there are bored officers, that are liable to become adrenalin junkies. Officers need to understand that when firing their weapons there are lives at stake, and its not like a video game or a movie where there is a bad guy that gets critically injured and heal up perfectly in a few days.

  2. This was an all around very dangerous situation that could have been handled differently. Hopefully situations like this will be handled differently in the future.

  3. I agree with the original post on this one, even though she was posing a danger to the people around her, there were so many other ways to try to end this before shooting and killing her in front of her kid.

  4. Things like this happen all the time only in America. Iceland just had its first unnecessary killing by a police officer this year. Why is it that the police in America are so quick to the trigger?

  5. Sadly things like this happen all the time. Innocent lives are taken for no good reason. The woman may not have been in her right mind but does that give an officer the right to kill her? It’s crazy how the majority of society think the cops did the right thing because they are the “good guys”. I believe this event should have been dealt with a lot differently. Police are people and people make mistakes and I think that what happen. The cops may have been nerves that this incident happened so close to the white house so they took drastic actions.

  6. seeing events like this take place shows me the selfishness in this world. i relate this to the christopher dorner case that took place in riverside where several police officers were shot and killed. events like these completely sicken me. regardless of people have psychological issues or not, this is just mind-blowing. innocent peoples lives are taken at the expense of someones insanity.

  7. This makes me sick, to be completely honest. The woman was gunned down in front of her own child because she was crazy? Because she was psychotic? She didn’t have a weapon. I seriously think that if this were to happen further away from the white house, then she would still be alive. There are other ways to go about things aside from killing.

  8. It’s unfortunate that the situation had to end so poorly, however i think the police felt like they were running out of options. If this event had happened further away from the capital maybe the approach that the police took would have been slightly different. In my opinion a woman driving recklessly and putting other people’s lives in danger, evading police, and doing it that close to our capital shouldn’t be taken lightly.

  9. This is a very sad incident, although, they consider the car as a deadly weapon, that means every thing in the world is considered a deadly weapon. We really don’t know what is a deadly weapon definition. My sons toys, are considered deadly weapon, a strong man, is considered a deadly weapon too.
